For a new classroom and a familiar face

First-day-of-school gifts with their own story inside

A personalized first-day book can give you a story to read together before a new school year or a move to a new school. The Pocket Brave Thing makes the building as enormous as the first day feels. The Long Way to School turns a grown-up's uphill-both-ways tale into an eleven-minute adventure. Both feature the child's photo-based illustrated character and are listed for ages 4 to 7.

Choose the kind of school story they would enjoy

The Pocket Brave Thing follows a child carrying a small comfort object into a school where the corridor becomes a canyon and the coats become a forest. The child crosses those spaces and eventually says a name aloud. The Long Way to School begins with a grown-up's claim that the school walk used to be uphill both ways. A mountain, a river and something asleep in a hedge turn the familiar route into a tall tale. One story stays with the first-day feeling; the other invites a shared family joke.

Make the school details familiar

The Pocket Brave Thing asks for the school name, starting grade and a small object the child keeps in a pocket for courage. Its grade choices include preschool, pre-K, kindergarten and first grade. Teacher and drop-off grown-up names are optional. Choose details the family recognizes and check them in the finished book. The two books have different forms; a field appearing on one does not mean the other supports it.

Read together before the date on the calendar

Use the pages as a way to talk about what the child notices in the story. This is a fictional story to share; children respond differently, and the book does not promise a particular first-day outcome. Check information from the school about its own routines. If a specific arrival date matters, check current production and delivery details and leave time for personalization and your own review before print approval.

Questions before you choose.

Is there a personalized kindergarten book?

The Pocket Brave Thing supports kindergarten as a starting-grade choice, alongside preschool, pre-K and first grade. The published reading range is ages 4 to 7. Use that range and the sample to judge the fit rather than choosing by the grade name alone.

Can the book include the actual school name?

The Pocket Brave Thing asks for the school name, with optional teacher and drop-off grown-up names. Check the exact book's form and your finished pages before approving print.

Does a small comfort object come with the book?

No. The pocket object is a detail you provide for the story. The offer is the personalized hardcover; objects, school supplies and gift styling in pictures are not included.

Does the story guarantee an easier first day?

No. It is a fictional story to read and discuss together. Children respond differently, and the book does not promise a particular emotional or school outcome.
