How photo-personalized children's books work
A photo-personalized book uses your child's photo to create an illustrated character who resembles them. That differs from printing the photo on a dedication page or choosing an avatar from a menu. TinyShelf uses AI illustration to put the photo-based character into the story you choose.

A name, an avatar or a photo likeness
All three can make a thoughtful gift. A name-personalized book places the name in an existing story. An avatar lets you choose features such as hair and skin tone. A photo-based character is illustrated from the child's own face. Look at sample pages to decide which experience you want.
Judge the pictures in the book
Start with a clear, well-lit photo where the face is easy to see. Then check the painted character and opening pages. Look for recognizable features across different scenes, readable names and a story you will enjoy reading aloud. A sample character demonstrates the style; your own preview is the check on likeness.
How AI and your review fit together
TinyShelf uses AI to illustrate the characters and personalized scenes. The catalog storybooks have a story to choose before personalization. After payment, you can request word or picture changes, then read and approve the finished book before it prints. The samples below show actual TinyShelf book output and an actual edit.

Is a photo printed on the page the same as a photo-based character?
No. A printed photo stays a photograph. A photo-based character is an illustration made from the person's appearance and placed in the story's scenes.
Can I change a picture or a sentence?
For the storybooks featured here, you can request word or picture changes after checkout and before print approval. Check the individual product page for its editing options.
What happens to the photo I upload?
TinyShelf stores uploaded photos while creating and supporting your book. TinyShelf does not sell child photos or use them to train TinyShelf-owned models. Generation providers process the images to provide the book-generation service. You can request photo or draft deletion by emailing support. Read our photo-retention and privacy policies for details.
