Before you begin
Set out the book, the expedition side of the map and cards 01–08. Read both sides of the cards. Bring a pencil. Read the letter on page 3, then the setup on page 4.
Pause at the findings before turning to a check. Choose either valid landing for today’s journey and follow its page reference; both routes continue to the ending.
Hints begin on page 43. The phone guide is optional and contains the same instructions and answers. There is no timer.
Print the three home files below at 100% / actual size, single-sided. Check each 1-inch scale bar. Keep the 48 book pages in order. Cut and fold each card with its printed faces outside.
For each map side, trim its four tiles and join A B above C D. Tape from behind. Put the two completed sides back to back. No need to glue them for a review.
An adult handles scissors. Home sheets test play and readability; they do not reproduce a manufactured hardcover or qualify materials.

Keep beside the book
North points up. At Arum Bend, the north-facing camera sees a forked tree on the left and a leaning tree on the right. At Heron Reach, the order is reversed. Palm Channel has the same order as Arum. Camera ground: Arum 5 m, Heron 4 m, Palm 5 m. Each old route has one entrance whose floor record is on card 03; surrounding ridges are 9 m above the common zero.
Today’s records are on card 05. Outside channel reaches Fern Landing and a short checked walk. Near channel reaches Cedar Landing and a longer checked walk. The shortcut is a separate boat connection. All three candidate places connect to the checked footpath network. Read the diagram for layout; distances are not to scale.

The video is silent; its message appears on screen. The book opens with their name and your note, the map and eight cards support the discovery, and the final pages leave room for their own record and picture.
