Your first idea
Open the expedition map and cards 01–04. Choose a first candidate for the photograph. It can be a hunch. Look for a record that supports it—and one that might make you change your mind.
Point to the place you would try first. Write or say its name and what made you choose it. You do not need to be certain.
Now test your idea with the map and the records. Does anything refuse to fit? A useful finding can begin with a crossed-out guess.
Keep Bento’s notebook, Rosa’s channel record and the photograph close together. All their heights use the same imaginary zero. The tabletop canoe needs at least 0.6 metre of water along its whole approach.
You can turn the cards, trace a route or try another camera point. Choose how to investigate. When you have an idea worth keeping—or a question you cannot settle—continue.
Help is waiting on page 43 if you want it. Keep your first idea visible even if you change it later.
